Kiprotich Supports Ugandan Charity Marathon

Runners from Holland have to raise €10,000 each.

The 2012 Olympic champion in the marathon, Stephen Kiprotich, has endorsed a charitable marathon in his native Uganda.

The race is being organized by a Dutch charity “De 4e Musketier” along with the organization Compassion and Open Doors, to raise funds for impoverished children and persecuted Christians.

The 26.2-mile race will be held in Northern Uganda.

“I often receive requests to do something for charity, but I thought this marathon in Uganda was the best,” Kiprotich said. “The money raised goes to aid poor children in my country, among other things. They are the future of Uganda. I love children and want help make it possible for them to get food, medicine and education.”

This May, 120 men from Holland will take part in the race. Each member has to raise €10,000 for the cause.

“This is an extreme physical challenge in an extreme location,” said Jan Stoorvogel, one of the race’s founders. “We’re urging the runners to push themselves beyond their limits and we’re doing that in a place where poverty and injustice reign. The runners can choose from a full or half marathon or an ultra-run.”
