Kiprotich Returns To Eldoret For Training

He had been taking it easy since his Olympic win.

Uganda’s surprise gold medalist at the 2012 Olympic marathon, Stephen Kiprotich, has returned to training. The 23-year-old, who held off the much-vaunted Kenyans in London, is back in Eldoret, according to a report posted by AllAfrica.com.

“He left on Monday for camp. That will give him time to concentrate,” said his manager, Jurrie Van Der Velden, of Global Sports Communication.

Kiprotich, a Nike-sponsored athlete, is coached by Patrick Sang.

He says his main focus is to train for the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, which are scheduled next August in Moscow.

Eldoret, Kenya, is one of the largest elite running camps in the world. The town, located at altitude, has many camps. Athletes such as Britain’s Paula Radcliffe and Mo Farah train there.

Since his win last August, Kiprotich has been taking it easy in his home country of Uganda. At the Olympic games, he was the first runner to cross the line in front of Buckingham Palace, clocking 2:08:01 for victory.
