It was a win-win for Kenya at the 42nd edition of the Italian race.

It was a win-win for Kenya at the 42nd edition of the Italian race.

Kenya’s Kiprop Limo showed his mettle at the Stramilano Half-Marathon on Sunday.

His winning time in the pouring rain was 1 hour, 1 minute, 49 seconds. Nearly three minutes later, Robert Chemosin came across the line in 1:03:36. Ahmed El Mazoury of Italy was third in 1:03:37.

“At 10km I decided to push and I realized that I could win,” Limo said. “I enjoyed the race, despite the difficult weather conditions. We couldn’t run faster because of the bad weather.”

In the women’s race, Pauline Kahenya broke the tape after clocking a 1:11:19. Hellen Jepkurgat (Kenya) and Emma Quaglia (Italy) were second and third.

About 6,000 runners took part in the annual race, which kicked off in the Northern Italian city’s Central Piazza Castello and finished inside the Arena Civica Stadium.

Before the start, a minute of silence was held for Italian sprint legend Pietro Mennea, who died at the age of 60 last Thursday.
