Two top contenders bow out of race due to injury.

The 2009 New York City Half Marathon will be without world record holder Lornah Kiplagat of the Netherlands and 2008 runner-up Patrick Makau. Kiplagat has been battling a knee injury, which has kept her from competition since March. Makau also sighted a knee injury as the reason for his inability to compete in New York.

Americans Ryan Hall and Deena Kastor will take on a field of international talent on August 16th in New York City.
