Dutchwoman is looking for her first win at the race.
This year’s ABN-AMRO Marathon Rotterdam set for April 14 is chock-full of talent. At the top of the start list for the women is former European Cross-Country Champion Hilda Kibet.
In the Dutch city, Kibet hopes to win her first 26.2-mile race. Two years ago in Rotterdam, she came in second with an impressive time of 2 hours, 24 minutes, 27 seconds.
Kibet’s racing season this year has gotten off to a solid start. At the Roma-Ostia Half Marathon, she set a new PR (1:07:59).
Squaring off against Kibet, a Dutch citizen, is a strong contingent of Ethiopians. Misikir Mekonnin owns a 2:25:21 PR for the marathon. This year, she prevailed at the Hong Kong Marathon with a 2:30:49.
The top American competing in Rotterdam is Adriana Nelson, who placed second in Chicago with a 2:28:52.
On the men’s side, six runners have personal bests under 2:06: Berhanu Shiferaw, Getu Feleke, Bazu Worku, Tilahun Regassa, Wilson Chebet and Sammy Kitwara. Also in the field are Geoffrey Kipsang, Assefa Bentayehu and Augustine Rono.
