Kenya ‘Prepared To Meet The Best’ At Cross-Country Worlds

The East African nation has won 26 world titles in 39 years.

On Wednesday, Kenya — one of the world’s fastest cross-country squads — departs for Bydgoszcz, Poland where it will compete in the World Championships.

The team of 24 runners hopes to retain its overall title.

In its 39-year history competing at the world stage, the East African country has won an impressive 26 titles.

“We are prepared to meet the best,” coach Sammy Rono said. “We are aware of the opposition and we are preparing to give it our best. So far, we have no reported cases of injuries.”

The last World Cross-Country Championships were held two years ago. Kenya won the men’s Senior 12K, while Ethiopia took silver and Uganda finished third. The women’s senior race was also a Kenyan affair. And, like the men’s title, Ethiopia placed second. The United States captured third place.
