Kenya’s President Looking For Olympic Answers

He, along with the rest of his nation, are wondering just what happened to Team Kenya in London.

The performance by Kenya’s athletes in the distance events at the recent 2012 Olympic Games in London was not the gold-medal extravaganza the world had expected.

After all, the top marathon runner in the women’s race came from rival Ethiopia, and in the men’s event, Uganda’s Stephen Kiprotich put down a surge that world champion Abel Kirui couldn’t match.

This lackluster showing has many in Kenya asking the following question: what happened?

Among those concerned is the very president of the East African nation, Mwai Kibaki, who has directed the Ministry of Sports to move fast to find out the reason for the poor showing.

“We are proud of Kenya’s position as a leading sporting nation. Let us never take that for granted,” President Kibaki said.

Kenya’s Sports Ministry will issue an investigative report on what happened (or didn’t happen) and Kibaki noted that he hopes these lessons will be learned in the forthcoming Olympic Games in four years.
