Kenyan Rivals To Square Off At Lake Biwa

It will most likely be Kipruto versus Kirui.

It will most likely be Kipruto versus Kirui.

Even though this weekend’s Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon is taking place in Japan, it will most likely be an entirely Kenyan affair.

According to the IAAF, the race will be a matchup between rivals Vincent Kipruto and Peter Kirui.

Kipruto owns a silver medal from the world championships and has smashed the 2:06 marathon barrier three times. In fact, he owns a 2:05:13 PR. However, Kipruto’s marathon greatness is in the past. He hasn’t broken 2:10 in nearly two years.

Kenyans aside, Ethiopia’s Tariku Jufar stands a chance of winning as he ran three sub-2:10 marathons in 2012. Also in the mix is Swiss runner Viktor Rothlin.
