The legendary Kip Keino of Kenya will be receiving a special honor.
The IAAF announced this week that the two-time Olympic champion and multiple world-record holder Kip Keino will be one of the 24 inaugural members who will be inducted into the IAAF Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame was created by the IAAF to commemorate their 100th anniversary.
“It gives me the greatest pleasure on the closing of the African Championships to announce the inclusion of Kip Keino to the IAAF Hall of Fame,” said IAAF President Lamine Diack. “He is an inspirational figure who achieved worldwide fame thanks to his phenomenal deeds on the track, and since his retirement has selflessly ‘given back’ to his country, building schools, an orphanage and an elite training facility for athletes.”
At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, Keino won gold in the 10,000m and 1500m. He secured silver in the 5000m there as well.
In 1972 he won gold in the Olympic steeplechase event.
