It was a Kenyan sweep in the men’s race.

Joseph Ebuya, the current World Cross-Country Champion, won the 54th Campaccio EA Permit Meeting, which was held in the Italian city of San Giorgio su Legnano. Ebuya, a Kenyan, clocked a 28:15 for the 10K race. Second place went to Leonard Komon who came in four seconds later, while Dennis Masai settled for third, making it a Kenyan sweep at the medal podium for the men.

“It was not an easy race because Komon was very strong today,” said Ebuya afterwards. “After I saw that I could not break away from Komon, I decided to save energy for the final sprint where I was confident to take the win. This win gives me the confidence that I can win my second world title.”

In the women’s 6K race, Aniko Kalovics of Hungary broke the tape first with a 20:04–her fourth Campaccio title.

“I decided to take part in the Campaccio only after finishing fourth at the Boclassic in Bolzano which boosted my confidence after a difficult period,” she said. “I am well known here in Italy and for this reason I was a bit nervous before the race because I felt that I had to win.”
