Johnson Issues Challenge To Bolt

400-meter world-record holder wants to see his mark go down.

Former Olympic gold medalist and current 400-meter world record holder Michael Johnson has challenged Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt to go after his one-lap world record of 43.18 seconds after the next Olympic Games in London.

“It would be incredible to see someone hold the world record at 100 metres, 200 metres and 400 metres and that’s where his motivation could come from after London,” Johnson told The Guardian. “I’d like to see him compete at 400 metres. I think he could break [my] world record [43.18sec, set in 1999] if he did.”

Johnson broke the world record, which has now stood for over 10 years, in 1999 in Seville, Spain.
