Jeptoo Moves Up WMM Leaderboard

The Kenyan is now in first place for the 2012-2013 series.

Rita Jeptoo’s victory at Monday’s Boston Marathon moved her up into the top of the World Marathon Majors Series (WMM) rankings.

The WMM was established in 2006 and spans across the following major city marathons: Tokyo, London, Boston, New York City, and Berlin.

Jeptoo won Monday’s race in commanding fashion, clocking 2:26:25. She now has 40 points in the series and a five-point lead over Sharon Cherop who took third in Boston.

Mary Keitany of Kenya is in third place in the WMM, but isn’t racing this spring due to the forthcoming arrival of her second child.

There is a tie between Priscah Jeptoo, Atseyda Baysa, Tiki Gelana, and Aberu Kebede for fourth place.

Three of these runners — Jeptoo, Baysa and Gelana — stand a good chance to improve on their position in the WMM series as they are racing London this weekend.

The men’s WMM leaderboard was left relatively unaffected after Boston. Kenya’s Wesley Korir moved  up just one point for his fifth-place finish in Boston.
