She will race for Team USA in August.

American marathoner Jeannette Faber has come a long way in the sport — a really long way. USA Track & Field recently profiled her in advance of the IAAF World Championships this summer in Moscow.

Faber is a member of Team USA and will compete in the marathon there.

Her first marathon was Chicago in 2004. She finished that race in 3:28:51 — making her the 441st female to cross the line.

In August, she will run her 14th marathon.

“Last Monday I received the e-mail,” Faber recalled of her notification that informed her she was on the U.S. team at Worlds. “My first reaction was just overwhelming happiness because up until a couple of years ago, I really never thought this was something I could aspire to, so it was really just this wave of emotion like, ‘Wow, it actually happened!’”

Faber holds down a 20-30-hour-a-week job while training in Nashville, Tenn.

In her second marathon, she dropped 17 minutes. She trains under the BAA’s Terry Shea.
