It’s Farah Versus Rupp In Birmingham

The British track ace has a home-field advantage.

The British track ace has a home-field advantage.

The Birmingham National Indoor Arena in England is arguably the fastest indoor track in the world. Thus far, 14 world records have been been broken on it.

Some more may go down this weekend at the Aviva Grand Prix on Saturday. One runner who’s hoping for a record is British distance running superstar Mo Farah. Specifically, Farah hopes to set a new British record in the indoor 5,000m. At 29 years, the current record (13:21.27) is an old one. It belongs to Nick Rose who set it in New York.

The record is definitely within reach for Farah. He broke the British 3K record in 2009 on the same track.

“I’m doing the 5km and would really love to get close to the British record, that’s my goal,” said Farah. “I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully we’ll see if I can make it work out there.”

Farah will square off against American Galen Rupp who he defeated at the Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross-Country race earlier this year.
