They are training partners and will be rivals next month.

They may be training partners in Oregon, but at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on February 4, Galen Rupp, the 10,000m American record holder, will be toeing the line against Britain’s Mo Farah. Both runners train under coach Alberto Salazar as part of the Nike Oregon Project. Farah is the reigning outdoor world 5,000m champion.
Last year, he switched coaches and moved to the United States to train with Salazar’s group.
The two runners will square off in the mile.
“The oval at Reggie has always been good to me,” said Rupp. “I’m ready to see what I can do indoors in the mile.”
Rupp recently made headlines by pulling out of the U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon in Houston last weekend, citing a need to focus his efforts on the track as he prepares for the 2012 Olympic Games in London in June.
Rupp’s 10,000m record was previously held by former Wisconsin standout Chris Solinsky.
