Her hip has flared up, but she still hopes to make Worlds.
She was supposed to run the 5000m at the Aviva London Grand Prix, but Kara Goucher has recently withdrawn her name from the start list. Goucher, a 2008 Olympian told Runner’s World’s Peter Gambaccini that her hip “flared”, which is the reason for her withdrawal. She then stated that she needed to get an MRI and so wouldn’t make it to London. She later confirmed this in an email on Monday. “No London. Heading back to Portland to be with my therapists. Still hoping for World Championships,” she penned.
Goucher has qualified to represent the United States at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea in the 10,000m event. She placed second at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in June.
In early 2010, Goucher became pregnant and took a season off. After her son, Colt, was born, she reentered competition at the Arizona Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon. At the 2011 New York City Half Marathon she placed third, clocking 1:09:03.
