Injured Higgins Withdraws From NYC Marathon

Metatarsal stress reaction fells up-and-comer.

Metatarsal stress reaction fells up-and-comer.

This is disappointing. Under-the-radar Paige Higgins was the top American female in April’s Boston Marathon, finishing 13th in 2:36:00, and was motivated to take the next step in her development at the ING New York City Marathon on November 7. A member of the McMillan Elite Team in Flagstaff, Ariz., Higgins, 28, was feeling cautiously optimistic about her foot when competitor.com visited the team in early August. After having taken some time off, she completed an easy run while her teammates ran tempo and reported that she was pain-free. Obviously, the problem returned, as it was the same third metatarsal stress reaction she was dealing with then that she cited as her reason for pulling out of New York. We wish her a speedy recovery.
