IAAF President “Laughing” At Bribery Allegations

He is confident he will be cleared of them.

Lamine Diack, the president of the IAAF, the governing body of international track and field, stated that he was “laughing” when the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC’s) ethics watchdog opened an investigation into bribery allegations.

Diack went on to state that he is convinced he will be cleared of the charges.

The IOC’s committee expects to turn in its report to the executive board next month. Apparently, Diack’s name appeared on a list of bribes paid by the sports marketing company, ISL.

Diack has responded that this money was paid by “supporters” who had wanted to assist him after his house had burned down.

“I was laughing,” he said. “I was laughing because the allegation was about something I received in 1993, and in 1993 I was president of my national Olympic committee; I was president of the African confederation. I was [also] president of the IAAF, so I had nothing to do with the program of marketing of IAAF.”
