Huge Clashes In Store For Doha Meet

East African rivalries about in the distance events.

East African rivalries about in the distance events.

Duels are in order at the upcoming IAAF Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar. World-record holder in the 800m, David Rudisha, will be squaring off against the only runner who has been able to defeat him in recent years, Mohammed Aman of Ethiopia.

The Doha meeting is the first race of the 2013 Diamond League season.

Aman is just 19 years old, but there will be an even younger runner entered in the 800m race, Timothy Kitum, who won Olympic bronze last summer.

The Kenyan Rudisha is the only person ever to break 1:41 in the two-lap race.

In other middle-distance news, another Kenya-versus-Ethiopia duel is in store for the 3000m. Yenew Alamirew of Ethiopia will race against Augustine Choge of Kenya. Both of these East African countries have dominated this event in the last 13 meetings.

The Doha meet will also host the women’s 3000m steeplechase event, with Milcah Chemos donning the Kenya jersey racing against Hiwot Ayalew and Sofia Assefa of Ethiopia.
