She set a world’s best 12K time last weekend in Alexandria, Virginia.

American-record holder Molly Huddle has been named USA Track and Field’s Athlete of the Week. Huddle won the .US National Road Racing Championships in Alexandria, Virginia last weekend, clocking a world’s best 12K time.

Besides winning the race, Huddle also earned the most combined points to prevail in the USA Racing Circuit title.

“It was a great morning to run fast,” Huddle said of her race. “I think Shalane [Flanagan] and I wanted to take advantage of a really fast course and really fast weather conditions. We both knew what the American record pace was and Shalane initiated the idea [to go for the record] and that’s just how things shook out in the end.”

Huddle and Flanagan ran neck and neck in the race after breaking away from the pack in the opening mile with a blazing 5:05 split.

Huddle clocked 37 minutes, 50 seconds at the finish.
