Houston Bids For 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials

Chevron Houston MarathonFaces still competition from Boston and New York.

The Chevron Houston Marathon wants to host both men’s and women’s Olympic marathon trials, to take place in January 2012. The popular January race is going up against the Boston and New York City Marathons, both of which are bidding to host one race each. Boston, which hosted the 2008 women’s trials, and New York, which hosted the 2007 men’s trials, are repeating their bids for the 2012 trials.

Houston played host to an American record in the half marathon in 2007, when Ryan Hall clocked 59:43 for the 13.1 mile distance. The half marathon plays host to the men’s and women’s US championships on January 17th.
