Hall, Koll Capture U.S. 7-Mile Crowns

Pre-race favorites prevail on hilly course in Davenport, Iowa.

Running in his first Quad City Times Bix 7 on Saturday, a road race which also serves as the U.S. 7-Mile Championship, top American marathoner Ryan Hall didn’t know what to expect.

“I went into it with a really open mind,” Hall said to the Quad City Times after the race. “I didn’t know what to expect. I was just running well within myself and it just worked out.”

What it worked out to was a convincing victory over the hills of Davenport, Iowa, as Hall ran away from a loaded field consisting of some of the best road racers in the country over the last two miles to claim victory in 32:55. U.S 10K champion Ed Moran finished five seconds back to claim runner-up honors in 33:00.

In the women’s race, recent Iowa State grad Lisa Koll took advantage of defending champion Molly Huddle’s absence, scorching her hometown course in 37:52 to claim a convincing victory in her first professional road racing debut. Koll finished 40 seconds ahead of runner-up Amy Hastings of Mammoth Lakes, California.
