Haile Gebrselassie Not Considering Retirement

The world’s fastest marathoner isn’t ready to talk about hanging up his shoes.

Thirty-seven-year-old Haile Gebrselassie is refusing to even mention retirement.

“Why should I retire? Why should I say I will retire in three or four years? You retire the very moment you utter those words,” Gebrselassie told The Associated Press at his office in the Ethiopian capital. “I still think about doing more.”

After his New York City Marathon debut this Sunday, Gebrselassie says he will next be targeting the Tokyo Marathon in February. Gebrselassie, who has broke 27 world records over the course of his illustrious career, is the only man in history to have broken 2:04 for the marathon, setting a still-standing world record of 2:03:59 in Berlin in 2008.
