The Gebrselassie race announcements keep on coming. This time, the great Ethiopian distance runner and world-record holder in the marathon will attempt to win his fourth title in the Bupa Great Manchester run on May 15 in England.
Former British Olympian Brendan Foster helped convince Gebrselassie to come to England for the 10K race.
“I know all of the pleas made by myself and others to carry on competing were appreciated and considered by Haile and sent a clear message he still has a great future ahead. The possibility of taking part in next year’s London Olympic Games was also a key factor,” he said.
Gebrselassie has been on a career roller coaster lately. After dropping out of the ING New York City Marathon last November, he made a hasty decision to retire from the sport.
Eight days later, he reconsidered.
Gebrselassie’s next race is the Tokyo Marathon at the end of February. He will then run the Vienna City Half Marathon in April.
