Gebrselassie To Chase Down Radcliffe In Vienna

The Ethiopian wants to show the world he’s not done yet.
Even though his incredible career appears to be nearing it’s end point, Ethiopia’s Haile Gebrselassie isn’t finished racing.
According to the IAAF, Gebrselassie will be taking part in the Vienna City Half Marathon in a duel between himself and the women’s world-recorder holder in the marathon, Paula Radcliffe.
The duel is called a “chase race” where Radcliffe will be given a head start and Gebrselassie, once the world-record holder in the marathon, will try to catch her.
The exact time advantage given to Radcliffe will be announced closer to the race, which will take place on April 15. She will start on her own while the rest of the field will start later.
Gebrselassie has enjoyed success in Vienna. He won last year’s half marathon with a course record in 60:18.
However, his luck in the marathon appears to have run out. Gebrselassie was only able to finish fourth in last month’s Tokyo Marathon when he clocked 2:08:17–not fast enough to qualify for the Ethiopian national team at this summer’s Olympics.
