Gebrselassie Eyes Marathon World Record In Dubai

World record holder wants $1 million prize.
Ethiopian marathon world record holder Haile Gebrselassie will try to lower his mark this Friday in Dubai, UAE at the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon. At the pre-race press conference Gebrselassie said, “I’ve made sure I’m in perfect shape, but everything has to be perfect, the weather, the pacemakers. If everything is perfect, I can run 2:03:30.” Gebrselassie’s current world record of 2:03:59 was set in 2008 at the real-Berlin Marathon.
Geb’s passion for making history is not the only reason he wishes to set what would be the 27th world record of his career. He also has one million other reasons for having chosen Dubai for his next record attempt. The race organizers are offering a $1 million bonus for a world record in Friday’s race. This will be Haile’s third world record attempt in Dubai.
