On Saturday at the Boston University Terrier Invitational, Olympic 10,000m silver medalist Galen Rupp opened up his post-Olympic campaign with a sizzling 3:50.92 victory in the mile — seven seconds ahead of second-place finisher David McCarthy of Ireland — leading five men under four minutes. Rupp, who was paced by Oregon Project teammate Dorian Ulery and Boston University’s Stuart Ross, shattered McCarthy’s meet record by 5 seconds but narrowly missed Bernard Lagat’s American Record of 3:49.89.
