A quick jog to the gym suddenly ended in handcuffs.
A jogger was arrested earlier this week in Leeds, England while on his way to the gym. According to a BBC report of the incident, the jogger, unaware of his crime, ran into British Prime Minister David Cameron right outside of the Civic Hall in Leeds. Before the jogger, Dean Farley, could even identify who he had run into, Cameron’s personal security had quickly intervened and apprehended him, thinking he was an attacker.
“I didn’t see David Cameron. I didn’t know it was David Cameron until they let me out of the police van an hour later,” Farley, who was eventually released without charge, told the BBC.
Upon his arrest, Farley described to the BBC feeling quite shocked and confused when he found himself “harangued and manhandled” by police without being told why.
Although the Metropolitan Police were only doing their duty to protect the prime minister, who was ushered into a nearby vehicle during the accident, Farley’s collision with Cameron is just another case of bad timing. May this be a lesson to joggers everywhere: Be aware of your surroundings because you never know who you might run into.
