Bring Back The Mile Web recently sat down with champion middle-distance runner Shannon Rowbury as part of their “Four Minutes with a Miler” series.
Rowbury, who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, talked about her recent win at the Occidental High Performance 1500m event.
“I really wanted to go into Occidental to work on tactics,” she recalled. “I have the [Olympic] standard going into Occidental, so it was a good chance for me to see how well I could kick and see how well I could respond to the athletes and whatever they could throw at me.”
Rowbury won the bronze medal in the 1500m 2009 World Championships in Athletics.
In the same interview, she talked about her involvement helping found the Bay Area Track Club.
“We wanted to be able to help connect the elite athletes within the Bay Area and also to give back to the community, so we’ve started a bunch of youth programs,” she said.
