Foundation Formed For Copper Canyon Ultra

Micah True's popular ultramarathon race will continue.

Micah True’s popular ultramarathon race will continue.

After the unexpected passing of its founder, Micah True last month, the future of Copper Canyon Ultra was uncertain.

However, according to Blanco’s agent, Scott Leese, the race will continue. Leese noted that the Caballo Blanco Foundation was formed with the purpose of  honoring True’s support for the indigenous Tarahumara of Mexico, their running traditions, and the annual 50-mile-plus ultra-marathon through Copper Canyon.

True was nicknamed “Caballo Blanco” and was made famous thanks in part to Christopher McDougall’s bestselling book, BORN TO RUN. He started the Copper Canyon race in 2003.

Leese commented that the new foundation with organize and fund the race next year.

True went missing in New Mexico’s Gila Wilderness after going out on a routine run. So far, the cause of death has not been determined although there were no obvious signs of trauma.

True got his nickname, “White Horse” from  children in Guatemala who say him running through their village years ago.
