Former World Champion Fights For Kenyan Wildlife Preservation

World and Olympic champions are combining efforts to stop the destruction of areas such as Nairobi National Park.

Former world marathon champion Douglas Wakiihuri of Kenya has combined efforts with Japan’s Naoko Takahashi, the 2000 Olympic gold medalist, to promote a half marathon through Nairobi National Park to benefit the preservation of that and other wildlife areas.  Wakiihuri is sick of seeing the area he trained in slowly disappear and is teaming up with the Kenyan Wildlife Service to protect it.  He also hopes that the race will help generate interest in the youth of the area to pursue athletics and become interested in helping to protect the environment around them.
