She will still compete in the Games.
The world-record holder in the marathon, Paula Radcliffe, is not heading into the Olympics in optimal shape. According to a news report on ESPN, the 38-year-old is saying that a persistent foot injury has hampered her training leading up to the Olympic Marathon in London next month.
She has been receiving treatment and is apparently on course to compete in the marathon.
Specifically, Radcliffe says that “the joint in my foot that can give me trouble has been giving me a bit of a problem. I don’t think my participation at the games is under threat at this stage.”
The British star has been suffering from persistent injury since she won the World Championship marathon back in 2005.
Her injuries have ranged from back, to toe, to hip problems.
She has been selected by Britain to compete in the marathon–an event that she ran in 2003 in 2:15:25 in London.
This mark stands as one of the most impressive distance-running feats ever achieved by a man or a woman.
