New York Road Runners President Mary Wittenberg is on a recruiting roll.
Last month New York Road Runners President Mary Wittenberg succeeded in getting world record holder Haile Gebrselassie to commit to running this year’s ING New York City Marathon. Today it was announced that Shalane Flanagan, the American record holder in the 3000m, 5000m, and 10,000m, and an Olympic bronze medalist at the latter distance, will also run the November 7 race. That’s a major coup, as Flanagan is expected to be a brilliant performer in the marathon and her debut at the distance has been eagerly anticipated for some time.
