Famous Half-Marathon Bandit Dog Passes Away

Boogie Butts was just eight years old and his owner thinks he died of a heart attack.

Some sad news out of Evansville, Indiana: “Boogie” the 100-pound chocolate lab that jumped into that city’s half marathon has passed away. He was eight years old.

Boogie, who had gotten away from his owner the night before the race, completed the 13.1-mile course in two hours and 15 minutes–which is about 10 minutes faster than the average human finishes this distance. He later received a medal for his feat.

After the race’s finish organizers didn’t know who he belonged to and he ended up with animal control, but was later reunited with his owner, Jerry Butts

Earlier this week, his family posted on Facebook that Boogie died of a heart attack.
