Ethiopia’s Adhane Tops The List For Daegu

Ethiopian is no stranger to running fast on South Korean soil.

For most track & field enthusiasts, the city of Daegu, South Korea brings back memories of 2011 when the world championships were held there.

On April 14, the Daegu International Marathon will be contested on the same course used two years ago.

At the top of the list of invited runners is Ethiopia’s Yemane Tsegay Adhane, who won last year’s prestigious Rotterdam Marathon in a blazing time of 2:04:49.

Adhane did not compete in the 2011 edition of the world championships, but he took fourth in the 2009 race. He’s also no stranger to South Korean marathons, having won the 2009 Gongju Marathon and placing third at the Seoul International Marathon two years ago.

Squaring off against Adhane is Kenya’s David Kiyeng, who owns the course record of 2:07:57 he set last year. Kiyeng is joined by fellow Kenyans Gilbert Chepkwony and Benson Barus.

Chepkwony took second in 2012, while Barus was third.

At the top of the women’s field is Kenya’s Margaret Akai, who clocked a 2:24 in Shanghai last year.
