The news seems to get better and better for the Dublin Marathon, which will be held on October 31. On Thursday, Race Director Jim Aughney announced that the Irish National Lottery will be the race’s title sponsor. Aughney also said that for the first time in the marathon’s 20-year history, the race will be broadcast live on television.

“We are thrilled to have the National Lottery on board as Title Sponsor for the Dublin Marathon,” he said. “They share our vision and aims for the growth of the event. It is a huge endorsement of what we have achieved to date and strong support for our development plans to have such a prestigious title sponsor as the National Lottery involved in our race.”

On hand at the press conference was a former Dublin Marathon champion, Dick Hooper, who compared the partnership to “the perfect marriage”.

The race will serve as Ireland’s national championship race with Olympic qualification places up for grabs for Irish athletes.
