There’s a reason they are called man’s best friend.
He name is Zug. The dog is a black Labrador mix and according to a report on KATU.com, the canine is now a hero.
The dog’s owner, 23-year-old Kelsey Short, was out for a run along the Cowlitz River in Washington State when a shirtless man with shaggy blond hair and a scruffy beard leaped out from the bushes to attack her, trying to pull Short’s cellphone from her hand.
That’s when Zug intervened.
“My dog jumped and bit onto his arm,” Short recalled. “The man got away and he jumped on him again and bit him and then chased after him.”
The man hit Zug, but Zug fought back.
“He hunched on his back and bit him when the guy tried running — bit him in the shoulder,” Short said. So far, police have been unable to apprehend the suspect. They think the attacker was a transient.
“He’s definitely been getting a lot of treats and belly rubs,” Short said of Zug.
