Dibaba Sisters Signed Up For Ostravia

The Ethiopians aren't competing against each other.

The Ethiopians aren’t competing against each other.

On June 27, some of the fittest and fastest athletes in the world will arrive in Ostravia in the Czech Republic to compete at the IAAF World Challenge.

Part of that group is a pair of Ethiopian sisters Tirunesh and Genzebe Dibaba.

However, they are not competing against each other with Tirunesh, three-time Olympic gold medalist, racing the 10,000m — an event that she has yet to lose.

She has done well in Ostravia with the meet record for that distance (31:03.37).

Her goal on the track will be running a time that will confirm her for the IAAF World Championships in Moscow.

Tirunesh’s younger sister, Genzebe, will be racing a shorter distance (1500m).

“I am looking forward to coming to Ostrava,” she said. “I know I am in good shape at the moment as I ran a PB in Doha [3:57.54], she said. “But unfortunately I did not win there, so I will be extra focused to win in Ostrava. It will be a good competition in my preparation for the World Championships this year where I hope to win a gold medal.”
