Dibaba Eyes 10K Manchester Win

Tirunesh Dibaba’s racing record is nothing short of amazing. A three-time Olympic gold medalist, the Ethiopian is now setting her sights at the Bupa Great Manchester Run that takes place later this month.
However, Dibaba has been struggling with injury lately. She was forced to withdraw from last month’s London Marathon due to a nagging shin problem that affected her training.
She’s also only run one race this year (2-mile indoors), which raises a question mark over her fitness. Still, she says she will be ready.
“It will be an honor to see Dibaba on the start line,” said elite athlete coordinator Peter Riley. “She’s not just a track athlete and world record-holder, but also a former world cross-country individual champion on four occasions.”
Riley continued: “Her performances on the roads cannot be underestimated either. She’s a solid performer over 5km and 10km distances, and she set the world 15km record in 2009. Last year, on her half-marathon debut at the Bupa Great North Run, she won a thriller in a fast time of 1:07:35.”
