Dibaba Breaks 15K World Record In The Netherlands

The young Ethiopian broke the 3 1/2 year old women’s record.
Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba set a new world record for 15K on the road with her 46:28 clocking at the Seven Hills Run in Nijmegen, Netherlands. Dibaba, who owns the world record for 5000m on the track, was racing in just her second road race ever. She broke the record of 46:55 set by Kayoko Fukushi of Japan in 2006.
Dibaba’s husband Seleshi Sihine, a two-time Olympic silver medalist over 10,000m, won the men’s race. The Ethiopian out-leaned Nicholas Kiprono of Uganda to capture his third title at the race. Both men were credited with the same time of 42:14.
