Desiree Davila Breaks Record At Emerald Nuts

Both the men’s and women’s course records were set by Americans on New Year’s Eve.

America’s fastest female marathoner in 2010, Desiree Davila, broke the course record at the Emerald Nuts Midnight Run on New Year’s Eve in New York City. Though there was snow on the ground, the mild temperatures were ideal for a fast race. Davila, 27, of Rochester Hills, Michigan, an athlete sponsored by Hansons, battled throughout the race with Canadian Olympian Carmen Douma-Hussar who had been the previous course record holder.

Davila’s winning time for the 4-mile race was 20:51. Carmen Douma-Hussar finished second in 20:55. Third place went to Allison Kieffer who ran 21:37.

“The course was great,” said Davila’s coach, Kevin Hanson, who ran the course with his 12-year-old daughter.

The men’s race also produced a course record with Stephen Furst triumphing over fellow Americans David Jankowski and Bobby Curtis. Furst clocked 18:11, while Jankowski and Curtis finished second and third respectively. Both runners were given the same finishing time: 18:12.
