Davila Bests Herself Yet Again

American runs personal best to finish fourth at Chicago Marathon.

American runs personal best to finish fourth at Chicago Marathon.

At last summer’s IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, American marathoner Desiree Davila had the race of her life, finishing 11th overall in a personal best 2 hours, 27 minutes and 53 seconds. She one-upped herself on Sunday at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, crossing the finish line as the top American woman in fourth place, posting a new personal best of 2:26:20.

“I definitely think I got everything out of it today,” Davila said after the race. “I felt pretty taxed by the end. There was not a whole lot left.”

Davila, who trains with the Hansons Brooks Distance Project in Rochester Hills, Michigan, became the fourth-fastest U.S. female marathoner in history behind American record holder and Olympic silver medalist Deena Kastor, former Olympic gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson and Kara Goucher.
