Dallas Runners Take On Cancelled Marathon

Thirty diehards showed up to brave the ice and wind.

Thirty diehards showed up to brave the ice and wind.

Some runners don’t take race cancellations well.

According to the Dallas Morning News, a group of dedicated marathoners decided to run the Dallas Marathon despite the race being called off due to a severe ice storm last weekend.

The runners got organized thanks to the “2013 Icepocalypse Marathon” Facebook group.

One of these diehards was 48-year-old Santana Gonzales who showed up from Amarillo, Texas.

“I just want to run, regardless of the conditions,” he said. “I want to get it done, so I was excited and glad that they’re doing this.”

Gonzales had completed 15 marathons prior to Dallas. “I’m kind of unusual because I lost over 80 pounds and I was very sick, so I started running,” he said. “I never want to go back to where I was before. I knew I was running this, so at Thanksgiving I didn’t eat all the sweets and all the junk and all the food.”
