Course Records Fall In Utica

Desisa, Kiplagat tops amongst 11,524 finishers at 33rd Boilermaker 15K.

Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia held off Kenya’s Peter Kirui to cross the finish line in course record time on Sunday at the 33rd Annual Utica Boilermaker 15K in Utica, New York. Desisa (42:46) and Kirui (42:48) both finished under the previous course record of 42:54 set by Kenyan Joseph Kimani in 1997. Mo Trafeh was the top American finisher, placing tenth in 44:58.

In the women’s race, Kenya’s Edna Kiplagat topped the field in 47:57 to eclipse the previous course record of 48:06, set by her countrywoman Catherine Ndereba in 2001. Alice Timbilili of Kenya finished 18 seconds behind Kiplagat to claim runner-up honors.
