Course Record Falls At Missoula Marathon

American Jason Delaney did it.

On Sunday, 5,000 runners turned out to take part in the 7th annual Missoula Marathon. According to KTVQ, some fast times were in order.

Jason Delaney, a University of Wyoming grad, took an early lead in the 26.2-mile race and never looked back.

By mile 19, he was crushing the old course record held by  Elliot Welder, but slowed in the final miles. Still, he set a new mark by 15 seconds. (2:26:10).

“I’ve been struggling with a couple injuries this Spring and Summer — struggling with a foot injury here the last couple weeks,” Delaney said. “I was just hoping to be able to go out there and put together as many 5:30 miles in a row as I could.”

His experience Sunday, slowing near the end, reminded him of another race.

“A couple years ago in Boston I just barely missed the Olympic Trials standard by a few seconds. I remember racing that clock the exact same way — thinking I was going to make it, and then not quite getter there. But this time I managed to sneak under that goal,” he recalled.
