Chris Solinsky Runs Blazing Mile In Seattle

It was his first race of the season.

At the Husky Classic held at the University of Washington this weekend, American 10,000m record holder Chris Solinsky showed the world that he can still run with the best in the middle-distance events. Solinsky, a former University of Wisconsin standout, clocked a blazing 3:54.52 mile, breaking the existing facility record for that distance and setting a new PR.

His time is also listed as a world-best this year.

“I’m happy it was a PR, and to do it almost all by myself, I’m really happy,” Solinsky said afterwards.

After trailing behind the rabbit for the first 600m, Solinsky was surprised to find himself in the lead so early. “I was definitely nervous, with all of those sharp college guys sitting right behind me,” he said.

In other Husky Classic news, Solinsky’s Oregon Track Club teammate, Tim Nelson, won the 3,000m race, beating out an extremely talented field with the likes of Garrett Heath, Matt Centrowitz, Alan Webb, Sam Chelanga, German Fernandez, Ian Dobson, and Stephen Pifer in the mix. His winning time was 7:49.95.
