Chicago Marathon Sells Out In Record Time

Runners wishing to raise money for charity can still find a bib.

Runners wishing to raise money for charity can still find a bib.

If there’s any doubt that marathoning is more popular than ever, then look at the news coming out of Chicago this week. On Thursday, one of the largest marathons in the world, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, sold out in record time (just 31 days). A total of 45,000 bibs are now spoken for. Last year, the marathon sold out in seven weeks.

Another Chicago Marathon record has fallen as well: race organizers confirmed that runners raised $12 million for worldwide charities in last year’s race.

“We are no strangers to records,” said Tim Maloney, Bank of America Chicago and Illinois Market President in a news release. “But these two records are truly meaningful.”

However, like the Boston Marathon, all hope is not lost for runners who missed out on registration. The race still offers entries for runners wishing to raise money for more than 90 affiliated non-profits.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon takes place on October 9.
