Chepkurui Sets 12K Record At Bloomsday
The threepeat women’s winner’s course record time of 38:10 knocked 12 seconds off the world best.
Lineth Chepkurui won the Lilac Bloomsday Run for the third consecutive year Sunday in Spokane, WA. The 23-year-old’s winning time of 38:10 established a new course record for the event and a new all-time record for the 12K distance. The previous world best time of 38:22 was set by Asmae Leghzaoui of Morocco at Bay to Breakers in 2005.
Kenyan Peter Kirui won the men’s race in 34:28. Kirui placed second in the Berlin Half Marathon just a few weeks ago. The top American finisher was Dan Browne in 10th place.
For than 50,000 runners and walkers participated in this year’s event.
