Kenya’s seasoned marathoner is injury-free and ready to race again.
Double Olympic silver medalist Catherine Ndereba has recently announced that she’s fit and ready to race in the upcoming Kenyan Prisons’ Championships on January 29. Ndereba has suffered multiple injuries, including a torn hamstring muscle and a bruised bone. She has disclosed that she’s been running 65 miles a week.
“I am now fit, although not 100 percent, but I thank God, I can now race,” she announced. “I’m still working on my speed and I am slowly building my mileage.”
Besides her double Olympic medals,”Catherine The Great” has won four Boston Marathons and the Philadelphia Distance Run seven times. She is 38 years old and has been running competitively since 1995 when she represented her country in a women’s relay in Seoul, South Korea.
Ndereba is coached by her husband, Anthony Maina, who is upbeat about her prospects. “I’m optimistic she will soon jump back to stardom. It has been quite a quiet season for her,” he said.
