Carroll, Booth Win Marine Corps 17.75K

Cold weather, hills present numerous challenges to the field.

Braving chilly temperatures, over 2,000 runners ran the Marine Corps 17.75K last Sunday. The race, held throughout the winding streets and trails of Prince William Forest Park in Prince William County, Virginia, offered each participant with the chance to enter the prestigious Marine Corps Marathon before registration officially starts.

At the front of the pack was 30-year-old Ryan Carroll, who covered the 11.03-mile race in 59 minutes, 57 seconds.

Well behind Carroll was second-place finisher Jeremy Booth, who clocked in at 1:05:46. Third place was awarded to retired Marine Lt. Col. Alex Hetherington (1:06:06).

Rachel Booth was the race’s first female finisher, as she crossed the line in 1:08:25. Stephanie Wagner took second (1:17:49).

“That was a very hilly course and a good workout,” Wagner said. “I came here with some friends. We’re going to do the marathon in the fall. I’m from the Chicago area so I’m psyched for the Marine Corps, and really glad to be coming back here in October.”
